    Title:
Burmese Architectural Wood Spiral Stupa Element. !9th Century Mandalay Period.
    Overview:
The ancient Burmese Spiraling Stupas were developed after the passing of the Buddha, whose remains were buried within the permanent Stupa structures. Afterwards, small models of stupa finials became a popular tradition and motif for regional Burmese Temples, and elements for variety of architectural decoration.
    Description:
Buddhist Architectural Finial from the Burmese Mandalay Period,  a wonderfully preserved hand turned  exotic Rosewood, masterfully carved in traditional Burmese fashion using a primitive hand powered Bow Lathe or Foot Lathe.
The finial was created with multiple stepped terraces, surmounted by circular rings and bulbous finial. The piece is in excellent condition, with the exception of one minor split at the base as shown, overall dry, smooth texture, still retaining wonderful color throughout, considering the environment in which it was maintained.
